E.M. Vélez is a photographer, writer, and poet based in Southern California.
My practice is rooted in the documentary and street photography traditions of Daido Moriyama, Mary Ellen Mark, Matt Black, and Graciela Iturbide. The intersection of place, memory, protest, and resilience are my primary preoccupations as a photographer.
My work spans documentary, street, and abstract photography. I recently resumed a personal practice after an eight year hiatus spent doing commercial and architectural work.
Available for commissions and freelance assignments.
